My Reception children designed a sign to go in the yard.
Our topic was about friendship. The children wanted to make a ‘Friendship Stop’ for those children who didn’t have anyone to play with at playtime. If they stood near the sign, other children would notice that they didn’t have anyone to play with, and would invite them to join in with their game.
I took their designs to a company that made the sign for us.
My Year 1 class completed this worksheet. We differentiated by my lower group copying underneath my writing, my middle group copied from a model and my higher group and MAT wrote questions independently. We then invited paramedics to come into class for the children to ask them their questions.
My reception class discussed rules and what was ‘fair’ and ‘not fair’ / ‘right’ and ‘wrong’.
We cut out the sentences and matched them to either ‘right’ or ‘wrong’. We discussed each one first and re-wrote them to be fair.
Early Years / Reception / Year 1
Sort food that is healthy and unhealthy for your teeth.
Print page as A3.

Top - children can draw and label pictures independently
Word document (editable) and PDF has been included.
We talked about valuing the achievements of our peers as well as our own. We held a circle time and complimented the person sat next to us.
We then completed the worksheet.
Lower - drew pictures of what they were good at (football, writing etc)
Middle - wrote key words independently
Top - printed it out as A3 - drew lines to write full sentences on.
My Memory Jar
Children take part in a circle time activity to discuss what ‘memory’ means.
Children think about their favourite memory with their family, in school and the most important lesson that they have learned.
Differentiate by:
Lowers - draw pictures & staff label pictures
Middle - draw pictures and try spelling independently/copy key words from a white board
Top - draw pictures and write sentence independently.
Editable Word document and PDF copies are included.
This was an end of year task. Children write about what they have enjoyed, their favourite memory, what they are good at, what they need to get better and what they want to be when they are older. They also draw a picture of themselves.
Year 1 - Theme of Superheroes.
Read the story Supertato.
DT project - design and make a Supertato. We used the TASC wheel to structure the project.
Letter from the Evil Pea - I left ‘bad messages’ from the Evil Pea around the school. Whoever read these messages turned bad. My TAs were mixing up all of the toys, and sitting on the tables. The children were in shock at first! Then, someone decided to make posters that had good messages on them to turn everyone back good. We focused on what ‘good’ and ‘bad’ meant.
3 Differentiated Worksheets - Reception/Early Years
What’s that sound?
1 - 4 sounds
2 - 6 sounds
3 - 8 sounds
I had a feely bag with different instruments and classroom resources inside. I used one resource at a time. I shook the bag for the children to listen to the sound. My lower ability children drew pictures and I scribed for them (listen to 4 sounds). My middle group drew pictures and initial sounds of what they thought the sound was (listen to 6 sounds). My top ability group drew pictures and spelled phonetically (listen to 8 sounds). MAT wrote in full sentences.
I used some instruments such as bells, drums, a triangle; as well as classroom resources such as pencils, rulers, crayons. Children thought that pencils sounded like claves. They also thought wooden building blocks sounded like claves. We talked about the material that they are made out of. I also used crisps, marbles, and numicon shapes.
